Webinar: Long Term Services and Supports in a Managed Care Environment: Advocacy Strategies for Increasing Independence
Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM PDT
This year has brought a flood of state proposals to move long-term services and supports (LTSS) into managed care systems. As is generally true when managed care is involved, these proposals present both opportunities and hazards. Ideally, service planning and integrated LTSS financing/budgeting will lead to greater options for community-based services. The risk is that service planning will be dominated by managed care organizations unfamiliar with home and community-based services (HCBS) principles, and focused on shortsighted efforts to limit services. This session, jointly presented by the National Senior Citizens Law Center (NSCLC) and the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), will discuss public policy advocacy strategies to protect consumer interests in managed care, introducing and utilizing an LTSS consumer protection checklist developed by NSCLC and DREDF.
