Congrats Marilyn. Here it is 20 years later and after 45 years as a wire service and newspaper writer/columnist I am working at the largest nonprofit in Michigan as a writer-in-residence and advocate-at-large. The Macomb-Oakland Regional Center, starting in the early 1970s, shut all 12 state institutions for those with disabilities and moved folks into the community in homes and apartments with all the supports needed. However, the state Legislature is reducing funding by millions for the care of those with disabilities. We still have to wise up those not-so-wiseguys. Take care. You are the Golden One of the Civil Rights movement for those of us with disabilities. I am finishing up “The Inspired Life” an autobio about growing up with a disability in America starting in the 1940s….be blessed, jerry wolffe, macomb twp, michigan 586 263 8950
