SUMMARY:Watch Party | Change\, not Charity: The Americans with Disabilities Act
DESCRIPTION:The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) and the Center for Independent Living (CIL) invite you to a special screening and discussion of Change\, Not Charity: The Americans with Disabilities Act. \n  \nChange\, Not Charity tells the powerful story of the decades-long push for disability rights that led to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. While curb cuts\, ramps\, and accessible signage may seem standard today\, they were the result of relentless activism and advocacy. Told through the voices of key participants and witnesses\, the film highlights the activists who put their bodies on the line to secure equal rights and changed the lives of millions of Americans. This event is a unique opportunity to come together as a community\, reflect on the past and future of disability rights\, and engage in a conversation about accessibility\, activism\, and the ongoing fight for equality. \n  \nYou must register in advance for this event: Registration Link

SUMMARY:Improving Access to Abortion for People with Disabilities: Lessons from the Disability and Abortion Access Survey
DESCRIPTION:Jillian MacLeod\, DREDF’s Legal Fellow will be presenting alongside Amanda Spriggs Reid from Women Enabled International in a webinar hosted by Disability Rights New York about improving access to abortion for people with disabilities. \n  \nPeople with disabilities in the United States have historically been and continue to be denied their right to make their own decisions about core aspects of their lives–including what type of reproductive and sexual health care to access and whether or not to build families. This presentation by Women Enabled International and Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund will explore the historical context of access to reproductive health care in the United States for people with disabilities. The presentation will also review current barriers to care as experienced by respondents who participated in a recent Disability and Abortion Access survey created by Women Enabled International and Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund and the true meaning of disability justice and reproductive justice in light of these realities. Further\, the presentation will provide an overview of the legal responsibilities and best practices for abortion professionals when serving patients with disabilities so attendees can effectively advocate for themselves or their clients with disabilities to ensure that any reproductive and sexual healthcare they access supports their bodily and decisional autonomy. \n  \nYou must register in advance for this training: Registration Link
