DREDF Comments on Proposed DOJ ADAAA Regulations

DREDF submitted comments on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) proposed regulations implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments Act of 2008. The ADA Amendments Act (often called the ADAAA) was enacted to restore the broad scope of the ADA's definition of "disability" in the wake of several U.S. Supreme Court decisions that had narrowly interpreted that definition in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Support for SB 577 Developmental Services

SB 577 seeks to create a new service funded by the California regional centers that allows providers to assist consumers individually to prepare for employment. This new category could be used to put together micro-enterprise opportunities and to fund the discovery phase of customized employment for people with developmental disabilities. [...]

The Misguided Vote on Debo Adegbile to Head the DOJ Civil Rights Division

On March 5, 2014 the Senate failed with a vote of 47-52 to move forward on the nomination of Debo Adegbile as the next head of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. The vote of 47-52 is disappointing to the disability and civil rights communities—Mr. Adegbile has spent his career litigating civil rights cases. It is not disputed that he holds the experience and credentials necessary for this position.
