This webinar was presented on June 27, 2023, by the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund, The Center for Independent Living (CIL), and Senior and Disability Action (SDA). The discussion includes the current rules in California healthcare settings, rights protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), what is a “disability” under the ADA, and ways to request accommodations under the ADA–including masking of others–that mitigate the risk of COVID-19. The workshop also covers the important parts of a reasonable accommodation request and provides model text for a reasonable accommodation request. Many health conditions that put one at greater risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19 or other infectious illness are disabilities under the ADA.
