Carol Tyson provides a necessary in-person presence for DREDF in the nation’s capitol to meet with and inform Congressional and federal agency staff about policy issues, represent DREDF in coalitions and advisory groups, and advance legislation benefiting the disability community.
Prior to joining our team, Carol was Director of Disability Policy for United Spinal Association, serving on numerous task forces working groups to eliminate barriers to transportation and bicycle and pedestrian safety. Before then, Carol was a senior strategic researcher and research coordinator in the labor movement. In 2014, Carol received the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Dr. Rosalyn Simon Award in recognition of advancing the field of accessible transportation through education, training, and advocacy.
A priority for Carol’s work at DREDF will be policies that further full integration of people with disabilities by working in partnership within and outside of the disability community through an intersectional lens. Through policy work, Carol seeks to advance issues and the voices of multiply marginalized, and looks forward to addressing issues crucial to all, including environmental justice, ending the school to prison pipeline, and adding previously earned experience and expertise to DREDF’s ongoing work to ensure access to transportation for all.
