BERKELEY, CA – Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (DREDF), a leading national non-profit law and policy organization, is thrilled to announce the establishment of the 2024 Judy Heumann Legal Fellowship. This fellowship, named in honor of the late Judy Heumann, a pioneering figure in the disability rights movement, aims to empower recent law school graduates with disabilities to embark on impactful careers in public interest law.
The Judy Heumann Legal Fellowship is a prestigious one-year opportunity that will commence in Fall 2024. It is designed for law school graduates with disabilities who are passionate about advancing disability rights and committed to pursuing social justice through legal advocacy.
Judy Heumann was a fierce leader and tireless advocate for disability rights. Her groundbreaking work included championing the implementation of strong regulations under the Rehabilitation Act and testifying during the hearings leading up to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Throughout her illustrious career, Heumann fought relentlessly for the respect, dignity, and inclusion of disabled individuals. Her legacy continues to inspire activists worldwide.
