Readily Accessible Lawyering: Working with Clients with Disabilities

An estimated 25% of Americans are people with disabilities. Unfortunately, clients and prospective clients with disabilities too frequently encounter barriers to accessing legal services. Attorneys can play a major role in reducing these barriers to better serve clients with and without disabilities.

This training will explore readily accessible lawyering, an approach to legal services that increases accessibility for disabled and non-disabled clients alike. We will cover:

-Ways that disability can impact client access to services and communication

-Applicable legal and ethical standards

-Strategies that attorneys can use to make their practices more accessible and meet ethical and legal obligations to disabled clients.
