Peter Talkington is the Judy Heumann Fellow at the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF). His work focuses on developing special education resources for children with disabilities who identify as transgender, as well as assisting in research, litigation, and policy advocacy on a variety of issues affecting the disabled community. Peter earned his B.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University and recently earned his J.D. from Arizona State University (ASU).
Prior to joining DREDF, Peter interned with Disability Rights Arizona, the Disability Rights Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Civil Rights Division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, working on a myriad of civil and disability rights matters spanning housing, employment, healthcare, transportation, and education. Peter also worked for ASU’s Post-Conviction Clinic and completed two years of AmeriCorps prior to entering law school. Peter believes that all human beings are entitled to the fundamental right to live their lives free of discrimination and artificial barriers, and he joined DREDF in order to assist targeted individuals in exercising that right.
