Comments on Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for 2016

DREDF submitted comments on HHS proposed rules affecting implementation of portions of the Affordable Care Act that directly affect people with disabilities. In addition to supporting comments submitted by the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), we urged HHS to issue comprehensive language access standards and technical support for navigator and non-navigator assistance personnel to ensure that people with communication disabilities have equal access to the Health Insurance Marketplace.

New Guide to Disability for Healthcare Marketplace Navigators

The Guide to Disability for Healthcare Insurance Marketplace Navigators, written by DREDF's Mary Lou Breslin and Silvia Yee, is now available (free registration required). The Guide builds the ACA marketplace navigators' disability literacy so that they provide accommodation and support, correctly identify issues, and give accurate information.

Information Regarding Nondiscrimination in Health Programs

DREDF and colleagues submit extensive comments to US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights on Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which prohibits discrimination in healthcare. Our comments were endorsed by fifty–seven diverse disability rights, health policy, consumer advocacy, racial and ethnic health disparity, public health, and research organizations nationwide.
