Assisted Suicide
Your life is not a burden. Assisted suicide and euthanasia laws are harmful public policy. They reinforce ableist assumptions about whose lives are “worth living” and exist in a health care system that routinely denies disabled people care, support, and respect.
DREDF opposes assisted suicide and euthanasia laws. Real choice requires real options: accessible health care, strong mental health services, robust home- and community-based supports, and quality palliative care. Until those exist, assisted suicide is not a compassionate choice — it’s abandonment dressed up as policy.
A Primer on Assisted Suicide Laws
This brief issue primer includes national medical, disability rights, and other progressive organizations that oppose assisted suicide laws, key objections, articles, and resources. It is for anyone who wants to look deeper, beyond the simplistic mantras of choice and “right to die,” or religion.
