In light of the recent election, the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), reaffirms our commitment to people with disabilities, disability rights, and disability justice. We have, and continue to envision a just world where all people, with and without disabilities, live full, joyful, pleasurable lives free of discrimination and oppression. We reaffirm our commitment to fighting for this future.
We stand in solidarity with all communities that have been and will continue to be targeted with bigotry, xenophobia, misogyny, racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of hate. We also acknowledge that people with disabilities live intersectional lives and experience multiple types of discrimination and marginalization.
The impact of this election outcome on our movement and our people is undeniable. We hold space for our feelings of anger and sorrow. We honor our needs and ourselves to sustain our fight for collective liberation.
The results of this election remind us that our progress remains vulnerable without vigilance, action, cross-movement and cross-disability solidarity, and community care and organizing. This is and will continue to be the fight of and for our lives. In times like these, we reflect on our history and our resolve. We are not alone, and we’ve fought before. We must tend to each other and our mission.
We must move collectively to act, to persist, and to protect the bright future we know is possible. We must allow our hopes and dreams to light the way.
Sincerely,
Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund
