On August 13, 2025, DREDF joined the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and 125 other organizations in a letter to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The letter expresses profound concerns with the recent decision by President Trump to assert control over the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and to deploy the National Guard throughout the city. Signatories urge Committee leadership to promptly call for hearings into this decision, and to engage in vigorous oversight moving forward.
