Take Action: Comment on the Future of Social Housing in California

DREDF encourages you to submit a public comment on the SB 555 Social Housing Study — and to share this opportunity with your networks.

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) and the Terner Center are collecting public input through August 8, 2025, to help shape the future of social housing in our state. This is a critical opportunity to make sure our voices as tenants, advocates, and community members are heard loud and clear.

Key things to know:

  • Here is a simple guide to help you make your comment, whether you have 2 minutes, 5 minutes, or more.
  • Comments are individual (not organization-specific), so multiple people from the same organization can and should submit.
  • You don’t have to include your name or affiliation unless you want to.
  • You can identify however you feel comfortable — as a tenant, advocate, CLT member, organizer, etc.

Please help spread the word to your members, colleagues, tenants, and other advocates — wide participation is crucial to ensuring that HCD and the Terner Center hear from a broad, diverse range of voices about what social housing should look like in California. Let’s make sure the vision for social housing is informed by those most impacted, including people with disabilities.
