Our Position: Support, but needs improvement
The Online Voter Registration system promises Californians, particularly people with disabilities that experience transportation and communication barriers, a secure and convenient way to register to vote. However, we are very concerned that the new system is not fully accessible for individuals who would use a screen reader program to complete the online voter registration process. We especially note with dismay the use of CAPTCHA technology on the site, which presents a well-known barrier to people who are blind or visually impaired and deaf or hard of hearing.
