Our Position: Support
California’s Paid Family Leave (PFL) is funded entirely by worker contributions, providing up to six weeks of partial wage replacement benefits to workers needing leave time to bond with a new child or care for a seriously ill family member. Such benefits enhance workplace stability by furthering a work-life balance that prevents inappropriate job loss. However, the goals of this program are compromised when workers fear reprisals for claiming these important benefits. SB 761 would strengthen California’s PFL program by clarifying that such retaliation is unlawful.
