Our Position: Support

Current law provides PLF benefits only to those assisting children, parents, spouses or registered domestic partners. As such, it fails to reflect and keep pace with the vibrant and growing diversity of California families, which now commonly include grandparents, grandchildren, siblings and parents-in-law. SB 770 would recognize this reality, expanding the overly narrow definition of persons for whom PFL benefits may be taken, thus enabling Californians to better fulfill both work and family responsibilities.
