On behalf of an 11-year-old Black disabled student (C.B.) who was repeatedly handcuffed and restrained by school police, DREDF and co-counsel Disability Rights California and Barajas & Rivera APC filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that Moreno Valley Unified School District and Riverside County discriminates against students with disabilities with a demonstrated bias toward Black students in its disciplinary practices.

  1. Debra

My African American child who also has a disability was “unenrolled” from school after my complaints regarding denial of FAPE, IEP’s, testing for disabilities, etc.

He was diagnosed in 2008. I have been going back and forth with different school districts regarding his education, suspensions, expulsions, etc. since then.

It has now been 3 years since he was “unenrolled” by the last school district. His education and IEP support has been placed solely on me.

I am a single mother, working part time to make ends meet and not getting ANY support from the programs designed around supporting children with disabilities. These programs or supports are for all but African American children. This is very sad, indeed.
